The General and The Sergeant

Adan Chalino Sanchez

The General and The Sergeant

In a forgotten little town there is a hidden tomb
that no one has visited, although it may seem unbelievable
of a retired general I will tell you his life

Trinidad was his name and Reyes his surname
he knew how to handle weapons to the rhythm of his trigger
many lost their lives, Parral was a witness to that

With orders to arrest him, Luis García was sent
'You only take me with flowers and we still need to see
who of the two needs the four lit candles'

García remained silent but then he said
before becoming a soldier, he already knew the rules
forgive me, general, this is your life or mine

They looked at each other for a moment, everything fell silent
and the general grabbed the sergeant by the neck
everything happened so violently that one of them fell

Only one shot was heard, the bullet whistled in the wind
Reyes tried to shoot but failed in the attempt
the general fell dead, the sergeant was faster.
