The Guerrilla (feat. Edson Velandia)

Adriana Lizcano

La Guerrillera (part. Edson Velandia)

Sembraba mora y andaba a pata

Sembraba mora y andaba a pata
Tenía mi pinta, tenía mi alberca
Tenía talento pa' la cantata

Tenía diez años y dos hermanos
Tenía mis padres y una casita
Pero una noche llegó la tropa
Mato a los cuatro y quedé solita

The Guerrilla (feat. Edson Velandia)

I used to live in the countryside, had a dog
Grew blackberries and walked around
I had my style, I had my pool
I had the talent for singing

I was ten years old and had two brothers
I had my parents and a little house
But one night the troops came
Killed all four and I was left alone

A commander, with ten recruits
Was the one who murdered my people
Because this land belonged to the homeland
And the president claimed it back

By sheer luck, they didn’t kill me
Because they didn’t see me hide
And in the morning I went to the mountains
And I signed up for the guerrilla

I became a guerrilla at dawn
When I drifted away and went to the hills
Because the one who only learned to plant and water
When the war hits, where else can they go and hide?

Now I wake up at 4 to write some rhymes
And I wrote this song with a tiny pencil
So they don’t say I never sang this story
And hopefully, it won’t take much longer to end

Hopefully, it won’t take much longer to end

I used to live in the countryside, had a dog
Grew blackberries and walked around
