Por aquellos días salió un edicto del emperador para que todo el pueblo fuese empadronado. E iban todos a inscribirse, cada uno a su ciudad.

Fue José con María
de Nazareth a Judea.
No encontraron refugio,
la posada está llena.
María que esperaba
la llegada del hijo
preparó los pañales,
un pesebre es testigo.

Y estando allí le llegó el tiempo de dar a luz. Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, lo envolvió en pañales y lo reclinó en un pesebre, por no haber sitio para ellos en la posada.
