Verses of the Walker

Atahualpa Yupanqui

Coplas Del Caminador

(La milonga de la pampa
Es buen tiento pa' trenzar)
(El lazo de un sentimiento
Que naides podrá cortar)

(Yo no voy a las boticas
La medicina a comprar)
(Pulso la guitarra y canto
Con cantos me sé curar)

(Cuando tropiezo me caigo
Y enseguida sé pensar)
(Que el que no nació pa' sapo
A devolverse a parar)

(Con la prima y la segunda
Mi copla suelo bordar)
(La tercera tiene penas
Y aguanta por no llorar)

(La cuarta es romanticona
Siempre le gusta soñar)
(Es perezoso y dulzona
Como flor del naranjal)

(La quinta es una tranquera
Que naides supo engrasar)
(Se siente sola en el campo
Y es honda su soledad)

(La sexta es cuerda machaza
Quizás nació pa' mandar)
(Ella entabla la tropilla
Y naides la hace calar)

(Guitarra cuando me muera
Tal vez con otro te irás)
(Pero el viento es buen amigo
Y tu canto me traerá)

Verses of the Walker

(The folk music of the prairie
Is good skill to braid)
(The tie of a feeling
That no one can cut)

(I don't go to the pharmacies
To buy medicine)
(I strum the guitar and sing
With songs I know how to heal)

(When I stumble, I fall
And immediately know how to think)
(Those who weren't born to be toads
Should turn back and stand up)

(With the first and second
I usually embroider my verses)
(The third one has sorrows
And endures to avoid crying)

(The fourth one is romantic
Always likes to dream)
(It's lazy and sweet
Like a flower from the orange grove)

(The fifth one is a gate
That no one knew how to grease)
(It feels lonely in the field
And its loneliness is deep)

(The sixth one is a tough rope
Maybe born to lead)
(It leads the herd
And no one can outsmart it)

(Guitar, when I die
Maybe you'll go with someone else)
(But the wind is a good friend
And your song will bring me back)
