The Awful Sweetness Of Escaping Sweet
we escape from the house
as the day disappears from the sky
into night
we became what we wanted to be
like a dream or a ghost
i collapse out of turn
near a house
lying still in the grass and felt the heat from the ground
rising up to contract and expand like a breathe
we escape from that place
soaked with sweat and the poison we drank
fill the bathtub with ice and hope this fever will break
like a heart
easily
but i do not recall all the words that were formed
on those wire lips as they greeted me
a promise was made without though as the temperature climbed
and i started to sink like the moon
tends to do if you stare at it too long
then you blink and its gone
and we crawl to our sleep with the dawn
i awake in the light feeling hollow and selfishly warm
close the blinds and retreat until what is burning is gone
and it's light is away
then we are back in the dark
chasing nothing through backyards and trees
you ripped your shirt on a fence but it didn't get me
yeah it's fear
it makes you so low
and these creatures look crooked
their shadows cut lines through my face and the concrete is fire
where my bare feet are placed
in a line next to yours
and i guess i'm not sure if it was fear that was born
as those awful eyes made their claim on us
i put my hands on the fence
said your name
and i started to climb
and it must have been sweat but i drank it like wine
it was sweet and my mouth was dry
i heard you scream but i made no reply
i can still taste it now if i try

Escapamos de la casa
mientras el día desaparece del cielo
en la noche
nos convertimos en lo que queríamos ser
como un sueño o un fantasma
me desplomo fuera de turno
cerca de una casa
acostado quieto en el pasto y sentí el calor del suelo
subiendo para contraerse y expandirse como un aliento
escapamos de ese lugar
empapados de sudor y el veneno que bebimos
llenamos la bañera con hielo y esperamos que esta fiebre ceda
como un corazón
fácilmente
pero no recuerdo todas las palabras que se formaron
en esos labios de alambre mientras me saludaban
se hizo una promesa sin pensar mientras la temperatura subía
y empecé a hundirme como la luna
tiende a hacer si la miras demasiado tiempo
luego parpadeas y se ha ido
y gateamos hacia nuestro sueño con el amanecer
despierto en la luz sintiéndome vacío y egoístamente cálido
cierro las persianas y me retiro hasta que lo que arde se haya ido
y su luz se aleje
entonces estamos de vuelta en la oscuridad
persiguiendo nada por patios traseros y árboles
te rasgaste la camisa en una cerca pero no me alcanzó
sí, es miedo
te hace tan bajo
y estas criaturas lucen torcidas
sus sombras cortan líneas en mi rostro y el concreto es fuego
donde mis pies descalzos están colocados
en línea junto a los tuyos
y supongo que no estoy seguro si fue el miedo lo que nació
mientras esos ojos terribles reclamaban lo nuestro
puse mis manos en la cerca
dije tu nombre
y empecé a trepar
y debe haber sido sudor pero lo bebí como vino
era dulce y mi boca estaba seca
te escuché gritar pero no respondí
