There in the Sierra

Buenaventura Luna

Alla En La Sierra

(Zamba)

Cuando por ahí me fui
las cabras a pastorear
al aire de las abras
tu nombre bueno le oí rezar.

Y me dio por volver
mi caballo a reventar

Me dio con tu querer,
la juerza pa' trabajar,
y este coraje de hombre
que con tu nombre aprendió a rezar.

Te miro junto a mí
más linda al guachipiar
los trapo del guagüita
que Dios, es güeno y nos quiso dar.

There in the Sierra

(Zamba)

When I went there
To herd the goats
In the mountain air
I heard your good name being prayed.

And I felt like returning
My horse almost bursting
Jealous of that air,
That your memory brushed as it passed by.

I found you in the most beautiful solitude
Working diligently
Sewing the little clothes
For the baby
That you will give me.

If I lost myself in the air
When I was young and a singer
In the air of my land
There in the sierra your love gave me.

It gave me with your love,
The strength to work,
And this courage of a man
That learned to pray with your name.

I see you next to me
More beautiful while working
The baby's clothes
That God, who is good, wanted to give us.
