Caminito Soleado
Claro caminito criollo
florido y soleado,
con pañuelo bordeado
vos me viste pasar.
Mientras los pastos amigos
que saben mi anhelo,
como dulce consuelo,
su verde saludo
me hacían llegar.
Cruzando montes y valles,
con alas venía
mi pobre carreta,
con su carga de esperanzas
las ruedas le hacían
al viento gambetas.
Y cuando ya atravesaba
la hondura del valle
de lenta corriente,
una congoja naciente
detuvo su impulso
parando su andar,
porque en ese arroyito
a veces tus ojos
se saben mirar.
Y así que vi su casita
de puro celoso
me sobró el pampero
para contarle chismoso
que traigo en mi apero
mil prendas de amor.
Para su pelo una cinta
que llevo escondida
de lindo color.
Para sus labios mi antojo
y para sus ojos
un claro cristal,
y pa' su blanca garganta
el criollo que canta
tiene este cantar.
Claro caminito criollo
florido y soleado,
yo quiero que se asombre
cuando ella me nombre
al verme llegar.
Sunny Pathway
Clear native pathway
flowered and sunny,
with bordered handkerchief
you saw me pass by.
While the friendly grasses
that know my longing,
like sweet comfort,
their green greeting
reached me.
Crossing mountains and valleys,
with wings came
my poor cart,
with its load of hopes
the wheels made
dance to the wind.
And when it was already crossing
the depth of the valley
with slow current,
a nascent anguish
stopped its impulse
halting its walk,
because in that little stream
sometimes your eyes
know how to look.
And as soon as I saw her little house
out of pure jealousy
I had enough of the pampero
to gossip to her
that I bring in my saddlebag
a thousand tokens of love.
For her hair a ribbon
that I carry hidden
of beautiful color.
For her lips my desire
and for her eyes
a clear crystal,
and for her white throat
the native singer
has this song.
Clear native pathway
flowered and sunny,
I want her to be amazed
when she mentions me
upon seeing me arrive.
