My Voice Stream

Mi Chorro de Voz

Yo tenía un chorro de voz,
yo era el amo del falsete. . .
Ay, laralai. . .
por el canto me di al "cuete"
y por fumar me dio la tos,
y de aquel chorro de voz
sólo me quedó un chisguete.

Cantaba un titipuchal,
las chamacas me admiraban,
por mis cantos suspiraban
y yo me daba a desear,
pero hoy que quise cantar
los gallos se alborotaban.

Pobre voz que anda al garete
por la parranda y el cuete,
por fumar y por la tos,
cuando quise echar falsete
solo sale un vil chisguete
de aquel gran chorro de voz.

Yo tenía un chorro de voz
y me daba mi paquete. . .
me admiró Jorge Negrete,
Pedro Vargas y otros dos,
pero del chorro de voz
sólo me quedo el chisguete.

Anteanoche fui a cantar,
festejaba Casimira,
al primer compás de lira
comenzaron a gritar:
--El sombrero y la chamarra
del señor que se retira.

Al que toma y al que canta
se le pudre la garganta
como a mí me dió la tos,
cuando quiero echar falsete
sólo sale un vil chisguete
de aquel gran chorro de voz.

My Voice Stream

I had a stream of voice,
I was the master of falsetto...
Oh, lalalai...
for singing I went to hell
and from smoking I got the cough,
and from that stream of voice
only a squirt remains.

I used to sing a lot,
the girls admired me,
they sighed for my songs
and I made myself desired,
but today when I wanted to sing
the roosters got agitated.

Poor voice that's gone to waste
because of partying and hell,
because of smoking and the cough,
when I wanted to hit a high note
only a measly squirt comes out
from that great stream of voice.

I had a stream of voice
and I got my package...
Jorge Negrete admired me,
Pedro Vargas and two others,
but from the stream of voice
only a squirt remains.

The other night I went to sing,
Casimira was celebrating,
at the first strum of the lyre
they started to shout:
--The hat and jacket
of the gentleman who's leaving.

For those who drink and sing
to them the throat rots
like it happened to me with the cough,
when I try to hit a high note
only a measly squirt comes out
from that great stream of voice.
