The Harvesters

Conchita

Las Espigadoras

Esta mañana muy tempranico
Salí del pueblo con el hatico
Y como entonces la aurora venía
Yo la recibía cantando como un pajarico
Esta mañana muy tempranico

Por los caminos y los rastrojos
Soy la hormiguita de los despojos
Y como tiene muy buenos ojos
Espiga a veces de los manojos

¡Ay, ay, ay! Qué trabajos nos manda el Señor
Levantarse y volverse a agachar
Todo el día al aire y al Sol
¡Ay, ay, ay! Ten memoria de mí, segador
No arrebañes los campos de mies
Que detrás de las hoces voy yo

La espigadora con su espartilla
Hace la sombra de la cuadrilla
Sufre espigando tras los segadores los mismos sudores
Del hombre que siega y que trilla
La espigadora con su espartilla

En cuanto suenan las caracolas
Por esos campos van ellas solas
Y se engalanan con amapolas
Sin abalorios ni angaripolas

¡Ay, ay, ay! Qué trabajos nos manda el Señor
Levantarse y volverse a agachar
Todo el día al aire y al Sol
¡Ay, ay, ay! Ten memoria de mí, segador
No arrebañes los campos de mies
Que detrás de las hoces voy yo

¡Ay, ay, ay! No arrebaño los campos de mies
Porque aguardo que vengas tu aquí
A escuchar lo que vale un querer
¡Ay, ay, ay! Si a tu lado me aguarda un querer
No me importa ni el aire ni el Sol
Ni que arranques de cuajo la mies

The Harvesters

This morning, bright and early
I left the town with my little bundle
And as the dawn was breaking
I welcomed it singing like a little bird
This morning, bright and early

On the paths and through the fields
I’m the little ant of the leftovers
And since I have such good eyes
I sometimes gather from the bundles

Oh, oh, oh! What hard work the Lord sends us
To get up and bend back down
All day in the air and the sun
Oh, oh, oh! Remember me, reaper
Don’t sweep the fields of grain
Because I’m right behind the sickles

The gleaner with her sickle
Shadows the crew
Suffering while gleaning behind the reapers the same sweat
As the man who cuts and threshes
The gleaner with her sickle

As soon as the shells sound
They go out into the fields alone
And they adorn themselves with poppies
No trinkets or fancy stuff

Oh, oh, oh! What hard work the Lord sends us
To get up and bend back down
All day in the air and the sun
Oh, oh, oh! Remember me, reaper
Don’t sweep the fields of grain
Because I’m right behind the sickles

Oh, oh, oh! I don’t sweep the fields of grain
Because I’m waiting for you to come here
To hear what love is worth
Oh, oh, oh! If a love waits for me by your side
I don’t care about the air or the sun
Or if you pull the grain out by the roots
