The Golden Ring

Me susurró.

Toma este anillo de oro,
Lo puso en este dedo
Mi madre a quien le debo
La dicha de vivir.
Por nada en este mundo
Quisiera yo perderlo.
Es para vos... tenelo
Y acordate de mi amor.

Como un sueño pasó aquel tiempo
Cobardemente me abandonó
Mientras la vida que yo ignoraba
Vestía de alhajas mi decepción,
Y otra noche, sin sobretodo
Temblando, enfermo, me lo encontré.
Bajó la vista sin conocerme,
Tendió la mano, yo me acerqué.
Venció el recuerdo
Mi rencor viejo
Y como entonces
Le susurré:

Toma este anillo de oro
Lo puso en este dedo
Mi madre a quien le debo
La dicha de vivir.
Por nada en este mundo
Quisiera yo perderlo.
Es para vos... tenelo
Y acordate de mi amor.

The Golden Ring

I wanted it with the affection
That is only known once
And in the poverty of my twenties
He was everything: my love, my king.
Until one night, crazed
I left my humble house
And in his arms, with soul and life
I believed everything I heard.
And I still remember
His burning voice
That slowly
Whispered to me.

Take this golden ring,
My mother, to whom I owe
The happiness of living,
Put it on this finger.
For nothing in this world
Would I want to lose it.
It's for you... keep it
And remember my love.

Like a dream, that time passed
Cowardly, he abandoned me
While the life I was unaware of
Adorned my disappointment with jewels,
And another night, without a coat
Trembling, sick, I found him.
He lowered his gaze without recognizing me,
He reached out his hand, I approached.
The memory overcame
My old resentment
And like back then
I whispered to him:

Take this golden ring
My mother, to whom I owe
The happiness of living
Put it on this finger.
For nothing in this world
Would I want to lose it.
It's for you... keep it
And remember my love.
