When I Saw You

Frank Delgado

Cuando Te Vi

Cuando te vi
llorabas escondida en una esquina del jardín
pues ser feliz
quedaba a diez kilómetros del círculo infantil.
Pero te mimé toda, te presté mi tete, te di mi carriola.
Pensé que me tenías inquina
me hiciste tragar toda tu plastilina.
Yuneisi te quiero, no te hagas la dura.
Dame una mordida de tu raspadura.

Y nos perdemos en intelectuales laberintos
para saber por qué tenemos los pipís distintos.
Intercambiamos flujos de catarro con antojo,
me diste tus impétigos yo te pegué mis piojos.

Cuando te vi
tenías el color de un chocolate
y descubrí
que mi abuela intentaba segregarte.
Pero jugamos, cabezas locas,
a meternos cosas sucias en la boca:
lombrices vivas, cabos de cigarro,
pedazos de pan viejo, envueltos en fango.
Yuneisi te quiero, tus padres me asustan,
el juez los separa, y el diablo los junta.

Cuando te vi
la "seño" te cargaba en sus rodillas
y a cocotazos
te hacía tragar la horrible papilla.
Y protestamos, no éramos pocos,
si no hay chupa-chupa me como los mocos.
Por defenderte di el paso al frente:
cuando sea grande seré dirigente.
Yuneisi te quiero, no sé si me amas,
pero te confieso, me orino en la cama.

When I Saw You

When I saw you
you were crying hidden in a corner of the garden
because being happy
was ten kilometers away from the daycare.
But I pampered you, lent you my pacifier, gave you my stroller.
I thought you had a grudge against me
you made me swallow all your play-doh.
Yuneisi I love you, don't act tough.
Give me a bite of your scrape.

And we get lost in intellectual mazes
to find out why we have different private parts.
We exchanged snot flows with desire,
you gave me your impetigo, I gave you my lice.

When I saw you
you had the color of chocolate
and I discovered
that my grandma was trying to segregate you.
But we played, crazy heads,
putting dirty things in our mouths:
live worms, cigarette butts,
pieces of old bread, wrapped in mud.
Yuneisi I love you, your parents scare me,
the judge separates them, and the devil brings them together.

When I saw you
the teacher carried you on her knees
and with slaps
made you swallow the horrible mush.
And we protested, we were not few,
if there's no lollipop I'll eat my boogers.
I stood up to defend you:
when I grow up I'll be a leader.
Yuneisi I love you, I don't know if you love me,
but I confess, I wet the bed.
