La Muerte Del Buen Amigo
De esa cuerda tan famosa que tiene allá en Pivijai
Que le ha dado tanta gloria a Don Vicente Caballero
Fue escogido un brioso pollo de talla muy singular
Pa' ponele el mismo nombre de un amigo parrandero
Y Don Vicente a mi me cuenta que le puso Poncho Zuleta
Don Vicente invito a poncho pa' cuando llegara el día
En que el pollo se estrenase y tuviera feliz encuentro
Pero una mañana al llegar a la gallería
Le dieron fatal noticia de que poncho se había muerto
Y quedo muy adolorido por la muerte del buen amigo
Pero aclarando las cosas entonces vino a saber
Que el difunto no había sido su amigo el buen parrandero
Sino el pollo de su nombre que pelear no pudo ver
Como poncho estaba vivo le dio las gracias al cielo

The Death of the Good Friend
From that famous rope he has over there in Pivijai
That has given so much glory to Don Vicente Caballero
A spirited chicken of very unique size was chosen
To give it the same name as a party-loving friend
And Don Vicente tells me he named him Poncho Zuleta
Don Vicente invited Poncho for when the day arrived
For the chicken to make its debut and have a happy encounter
But one morning upon arriving at the gallery
He received the fatal news that Poncho had died
And he was deeply saddened by the death of the good friend
But clarifying things, he then came to know
That the deceased had not been his party-loving friend
But the chicken with his name that couldn't fight
Since Poncho was alive, he thanked the heavens
And now he says with great joy Poncho is still alive
