The Blacksmith's Song

Herrikoiak

Forjarien kanta

Gaur forjariak lana utzirik
gatoz guztiok kalera,
labeak oso itzaldurikan
jaikera bat egitera,
mailu, burdin ta gainerakoak
botarikan bazterrera;
ez degu nahi guk berriro sartu
lehengo tokira lanera.

Dinbili danba! goiz eta gaua,
su eta keian tartian,
sosegu eta deskantsu gabe
gure buruen kaltian;
horregatikan lanak utzita
gatoz guztiok batian.

Gora bai gora beti, gora forjariak!
langile trebe zintzo da mailukaria.
Lurpera ta lurpera beti nagusia!
ez digute egingo nahi duten guztia.
Ez badigute ematen arrazoia guri,
ez badigute ematen behar legez ongi,
su emango diogu gure fabrikari
eta nagusiaren etxe guztiari.

Hiru babarrun jatiagatik
horrenbeste neke, pena;
erdi ahuldua aurkitutzen da
forjariaren barrena.
Gure kontura egin oi dute
nagusiak nahi dutena,
langileen bizkarretik gizendu
dute beren poltsa dana.

Oso goizetik lanian hasi
su eta keian tartian,
dinbi ta danba! gelditu gabe
guztiz illundu artian,
arropa denak puskatzen eta
osasunaren kaltian.

Ez badigu guri jornalik haunditzen,
berriro gu ez gera lanera biurtzen;
arrazoiakin degu gehiago eskatzen,
iñorgandik ez gera gu ikaratutzen.
Ez badigu ematen arrazoia guri,
ez badigu ematen biar aiña ogi,
sua emango diogu gure fabrikari
eta nagusiaren etxe guziari.

The Blacksmith's Song

Today the blacksmiths leave work
we all go to the street,
with the lips completely dry
to make a revolution,
hammers, iron, and other things
thrown to the side;
we don't want to go back
to the old place to work again.

Dinbili danba! morning and night,
in the middle of fire and smoke,
restless and without rest
in our heads burning;
that's why leaving work
we all come together.

Up yes up always, up blacksmiths!
the honest worker is the master.
Down and down always the boss!
we won't do everything they want.
If they don't give us a reason,
if they don't treat us well by law,
we will set fire to our factory
and all the boss's houses.

Because of three fat bellies
so much trouble, pain;
half weakened is found
inside the blacksmith.
They have made us realize
what the bosses want,
they have taken everything
from the workers' backs.

From very early on starting to work
in the middle of fire and smoke,
dinbi and danba! without stopping
completely exhausted,
tearing all clothes and
in the name of health.

If they don't pay us well,
we won't turn back to work;
we demand more with reasons,
we won't be upset by anyone.
If they don't give us a reason,
if they don't give us a piece of bread,
we will set fire to our factory
and all the boss's houses.
