When the House Lights Up

Highland Seas

The kettle hisses in the morning
I fold my shirt, I tie my shoes
But your name slips through the silence
And the walls remember you

Every switch is pulled without my hand
The windows breathe, the hallway holds

When the house lights up, it blinds me still
Every corner knows the love I failed to fill
Chairs accusing, floors that shake
A home alive with my mistakes

I hear the echoes of your breathing
The bed misses how you used to sigh in pleasure
The bathroom hides a strand of your hair
Your shadow pulls me back inside

The silence bends, it almost sings
The air recalls the shape of things

When the house lights up, it blinds me still
Every corner knows the love I failed to fill
Chairs accusing, floors that shake
A home alive with my mistakes

If I had stayed and held the beams
Could we have built a steadier dream?
Now I stand outside the glow
A stranger to the place I know

When the house lights up, it burns my skin
All the rooms remind me where I've been
Shadows rising, even the carpet aches
A home that only lives in me

The house lights up
And it calls your name
