Cuando naciste tú, caña de agosto,
Las rosas y las violetas nacían
Y en el centro, desde una rama de plata fina
Brotaban manzanas plateadas.
Hay un clavel en lo alto de la caña

When you were born, cane of August,
Roses and violets were blooming
And in the center, from a fine silver branch
Silver apples were sprouting.
There's a carnation high on the cane
That spreads its scent three hundred miles away
People who see it wonder
Where such a fancy flower comes from.
I've brought you a precious cup
Filled with songs and a hundred roses.
An angel called me last night
To see this fragrant plant once more.
I want to write a letter to the sun
So it won't hide on this day
And I want to gift it a sunflower
It's nice to sing where it turns and goes.
The moon and the sun are relatives
They've built their neighboring homes
