The Saint

Ivan Cuevas

The Saint

She didn’t bring candles or any charms
Just a doubt and a heavy pain in her heart
She fell to her knees
Showing respect from the start

In front of her stood a lady all dressed in black
Carrying a scythe, her face was all bone
Her robe covered her whole
And that’s how her prayer was known

I just come to ask you to watch over my family
Keep me safe from traitors
And from that bitch called envy
She said to Santa Muerte
I give you my life, you see

A deep devotion, many people were watching
They admired him, seeing his eyes, they were crying
Thanks in advance, so much
My faith is in you, white girl

When he finished his prayer, he turned to leave
They say he came back days later, looking different, you wouldn’t believe
He had a smile on his face and a band was playing a tune

I just come to pay you back for what I promised you
Thank you, Holy Death, for interceding for me and if you allow it
I’ll be back to you real soon
