O Embuçado
Noutro tempo a fidalguia
Que deu brado nas toiradas
Andava p'la mouraria
Em muito palácio havia
Descantes e guitarradas
The Masked One
In another time the nobility
That made a stir in the bullfights
Walked through the Moorish quarter
In many palaces there were
Songs and guitar playing
And the story I'm going to tell
Was told to me by a certain old lady
About a time when I went to sing
In the hall of a nobleman
Near the queen's palace
And in that golden hall
Of noble and serious atmosphere
To listen to the fado being sung
There was always a masked one
A mysterious character
But one night someone
Told him, raising his voice
Masked one, take note, today no one
Masked remains in this room!
And to general amazement
The masked one was revealed
He was the king of Portugal, there was a royal audience
And then the fado was sung
