Eternal Loves

Joaquín Sabina

Amores Eternos

Vestirla era peor que amortajarla;

A cambio de sus besos y su prisa;

A cambio de sus besos y su prisa;

Eternal Loves

Naked she felt just like a fish in water,
Dressing her was worse than shrouding her;
Innocent and perverse like a world without gods,
Joyful and generous like the bread of the poor.

I didn't want to hold her, what would it have served
To unpack the suitcases of forgetfulness?
But I don't know what I would give to have her right now
Looking over my shoulder at what I write.
I gave her my nights and my bread, my anguish, my laughter,
In exchange for her kisses and her haste;
With her I discovered that there are eternal loves
That last as long as a short winter.

I keep a crimson kiss that her lips left
Imprinted on the bathroom mirror,
A yellowed photo, a rusted heart,
And this thirst of one who longs for the source of sin.

Before the moth of everyday life
Ended up sleeping in our bed,
Pagan and arbitrary like a Monday without class
She left in the early morning, didn't want to belong to anyone.

I gave her my nights and my bread, my anguish, my laughter,
In exchange for her kisses and her haste;
With her I discovered that there are eternal loves
That last as long as a short winter.
