The Ant on the Path

José Afonso

A Formiga No Carreiro

A formiga no carreiro
vinha em sentido contrário
Caiu ao Tejo
ao pé de um septuagenário
Lerpou trepou às tábuas (bis)
que flutuavam nas águas (bis)
e do cimo de uma delas
virou-se para o formigueiro
mudem de rumo (bis)
já lá vem outro carreiro

A formiga no carreiro
vinha em sentido diferente
caiu à rua
no meio de toda a gente

buliu abriu as gâmbeas
para trepar às varandas
e do cimo de uma delas
...

A formiga no carreiro
andava à roda da vida
caiu em cima
de uma espinhela caída

furou furou à brava
numa cova que ali estava
e do cimo de uma delas

The Ant on the Path

The ant on the path
was coming in the opposite direction
Fell into the Tagus
next to a septuagenarian

Climbed up the planks (repeat)
that floated on the waters (repeat)
and from the top of one of them
turned towards the anthill
change direction (repeat)
here comes another path

The ant on the path
was coming in a different direction
fell on the street
in the middle of everyone

moved opened its legs
to climb the balconies
and from the top of one of them
...

The ant on the path
was going around in life
dropped on top
of a fallen thorn

drilled fiercely
in a hole that was there
and from the top of one of them
