Sonnet 16

José Larralde

Soneto 16

Sonnet 16

Free sparrows, from my window,
fill the whole house with song.
Without golden cages in the morning,
they climb life up to the terrace.

Free sparrows, wings with wings,
loose stanza, note without fault.
They don't go, they don't wait, they don't flee, they don't do anything,
they are just free... that's enough.

As I envy the race,
of the poor bird that lives in a cage,
for being beautiful and sometimes walking
behind the bastard and cruel bar,
biting the dust of a battle,
that doesn't even end when dead.
To be free, dying is not enough.
Free sparrows... from my window...
