Listen to Me

Joseph O'Brien

He would watch my baseball games each Monday
I'd go over to his house to play that dumb ol' PGA game
And I didn't understand
That he was just a man who'd never change

I thought I was too young to present it
Yeah my parents gave him everything he needed for repentance
But he said that's not for me
Momma cried and dad would plea while I just played

Ooh, ooh
All the things I should've said
Ooh, ooh
Maybe he would've had a chance
To turn around, take the leap
If I had another opportunity
Would he listen to me?

He was full of love and lots of laughter
A good husband who was quite affectionate to my grandmother
So loyal but so lost
Oh you never would've thought he ran from God

Ooh, ooh
All the things I should've said
Ooh, ooh
Maybe he would've had a chance
To turn around, take the leap
If I had another opportunity
Would he listen to me?
Would he listen to me?
Would he listen to me?
Listen to me

I'd tell him Jesus, only Jesus
Can forgive every sin you have done
It's not too late, please believe me
Grandad you're never too far gone

And as I sat there looking at the ashes
The questions starting burning in my heart as I reflected
What if I had spoken up?
Would he have given love a second glance?

No I can't blame myself for his rejection
Cause probably if I shared what I believe he'd lose attention
But that's what hurts me most
I guess I'll never know
'Cause I missed my chance
