Wolf Mother!

josephine illingworth

When he looked at me
I was just a girl, I was thirteen
So after we got home
I threw out all my clothes
That showed my shoulders

And Wolf Mother came that night, said: Darling don't you cry
I will help you
And she bit my shoulders off, and stored them in her den
For when I was older

She said: Hold my hand, my love, things will touch you
But there comes a time, when you must grow up
And let them clutch us

The next thing that would go, was the bridge of my nose
It was too long
She hacked it off one night, under blistering moonlight
Her teeth so white

She said: Hold my hand, my love, you can rest now
And she kept that piece of me, for safe keeping

I found her at first light
Been crying out my eyes, my stomach wasn't right
It always weighed me down
I said: Wolf Mother, this time take all of it

She said: Hold my hand, my love, we should stop now
I said: Don't be cold, Wolf Mother, I am just getting started

Wolf Mother's coming to eat you
Then you will be right
Taking the worst pieces of you
Carving you with deep lines
Blood lights her eyes
She smiles blithely at me
