The Tragedy of Rosita

On the banks of the river, Rosita washed clothes
Neither work nor boredom withered her face
Of all the village, Rosa was the most beautiful

The peasants sang when they saw her coming
And they fought for her love, willing to die for her
All of them yearned for that April rose

Time passed like the rose blooming
But on that tragic day, things changed a lot
Tragedy is the companion
Of the beautiful women

And from Sinaloa's jump
To California, my crazy friend Pancho

That day dawned cloudy in the sky
Rosita went down to the river carrying her load
And a man approached her with evil intentions

My beloved Rosita shouted at that rancher
How long I've waited for this day to tell you I love you
Now you have to be mine or I'll die trying

Under that willow where she grew up
That vile peasant mocked Rosita
Then he threw her into a whirlpool
And the river took her away
