The Camba
I come from the ranch of Motacú
Where the sayubú sings.
And in my bag, I bring some urucú
To sell in Santa Cruz.
And in my chubuno, I’ve got some sobó
To share with the boss.
And here in my bag, I’ve got the booze
To soften up his heart.
And when I’m drunk, I’ll say to him,
"Fix me up, boss, just this once,
I don’t want to work around here anymore,
I want to head back to the town."
And the boss, all pissed off, will say,
"Get that camba out of here, please,
Just throw him a couple of coins,
And tell him to get lost."
Oh my Santa Cruz, my hometown,
I want to stroll through the sandy ground.
Oh my Santa Cruz, my eastern land,
I want to dance for the carnival.
