Adelita, Adelita no me vayas a olvidar

On the top of the steep mountain range,
A regiment was camped,
And a young woman who bravely followed it,
Madly in love with the sergeant

Popular among the troops was Adelita,
The woman the sergeant idolized,
Who besides being brave was beautiful,
Even the colonel respected her

And it was heard that he said
He who loved her so much:

And if Adelita wanted to be my girlfriend,
And if Adelita were my wife,
I would buy her a silk dress
To take her dancing at the barracks

One afternoon when the escort was returning
Leading the sergeant among their ranks,
And a woman who was sobbing,
Her plea was heard in the camp

Upon hearing her, the sergeant, fearful
Of losing his beloved forever,
Hiding his emotion under the hood,
Sang to his beloved in this way:

Adelita, Adelita, don't forget me

And if by chance I die in battle,
And they are going to bury my body,
Adelita, I beg you by God,
That with your eyes you will cry for me

Now I bid farewell to my beloved Adela
I would only like to carry a memory
Her portrait engraved in my mind
To never forget her love
