The Ballad of the Perez Brothers

Las Jilguerillas

El Corrido De Los Perez

En mil novecientos once
le voy a explicar muy bien,
mataron a dos hermanos
y un primo hermano tambien.

Fue un jueves veinte de abril
como a las tres de la tarde
mirio don Mariano Perez
en las manos de un cobarde.

Carreras tan desgraciadas,
esas carreras del cerro,
perdieron vida y caballos
y perdieron su dinero.

Fue Domingo de luna
el que la mecha prendio
y a los primeros balazos
fue el primero que corrio.

Jesus Perez decia
muy maziso en sus razones
yo tambien muero en la raya
no soy cria de correlones.

Isidro Perez decia
no pegaron a la mala,
si hubieran hablao derecho
otro gallo les cantara.

Mariano Perez decia
ya dejalo por la paz
pues asi nos combendria
sea por dios no digo mas

Isidro cayo pal sur,
pal norte cayo Jesus,
Mariano para el oriente
como formando una cruz.

Vuela vuela palomita
vuela paloma querida
dile al padre de los Perez
que aqui termino su vida.

The Ballad of the Perez Brothers

In nineteen eleven
let me explain it right,
two brothers were killed
and a cousin too, alright.

It was a Thursday, April 20th,
at around three in the afternoon,
Don Mariano Perez saw
in the hands of a coward, a goon.

Such tragic races,
those races from the hill,
they lost their lives and horses
and their money, what a thrill.

It was a Sunday under the moon
that lit the fuse, you see,
and at the first gunshots,
it was the first to flee.

Jesus Perez would say
with a strong sense of pride,
I'll die standing my ground,
I'm no coward, I won't hide.

Isidro Perez would say
it wasn't done the wrong way,
if they had just spoken straight,
a different tune they'd play.

Mariano Perez would say
let's just leave it in peace,
for that would suit us well,
by God, I won't say more, please.

Isidro fell to the south,
Jesus fell to the north,
Mariano to the east,
like forming a cross, of course.

Fly, fly, little dove,
fly, dear dove, take flight,
tell the father of the Perez
that here ends his life tonight.
