At Six O'Clock

A las seis en punto

Dejo la escoba
se lavo las manos
siguio cantando
pero muy bajito,
no se peino, no
ni lavo los platos
se le cayó el pastel
y se cambio el vestido

No leyo los diarios
para que tristeza
si al final de cuentas
siempre, siempre dicen lo mismo,
no quiso que nada
quebrara su fiesta
y al llegar la noche
se acosto contenta.

Temprano en la mañana
se levanto radiante
y escribio con dentifrico en el espejo del baño
un nuevo nombre
con su apellido.

Alzo la copa,
la copa vacia
y brindo por nadie,
llena de alegria,
le dijo un verso,
un verso de Withman
a la golondrina
que paso de prisa
se abrazo a la almohada
y la llevo bailando
intento una mueca
termino llorando
tuvo mucho miedo
pero fue tan lindo,
a las seis en punto
mi amiga tuvo un niño.

At Six O'Clock

I put the broom down
Washed my hands
Kept on singing
But very softly,
Didn't comb her hair, no
Nor did the dishes
Dropped the cake
And changed her dress

Didn't read the newspapers

She hugged the pillow
And danced with it
Tried to smile
Ended up crying
Was very scared
But it was so beautiful,
At six o'clock
My friend had a baby.
