Loas al cuarto de baño

Entre los diversos recintos en que transcurre la vida de los hombres uno de los más frecuentados es el cuarto de baño. Sin embargo su figuración en la historia ha sido injustamente postergada. Cosas muy importantes han sucedido en los baños; ¡cuantas decisiones se han tomado, cuantos libros se han leído! O, en la vida cotidiana, cuántos matrimonios se reconcilian en el baño, por ejemplo mientras la esposa se lava los dientes y el esposo se recorta el bigote… o viceversa… Es verdad que el humilde espejo de un botiquín no tiene la hondura metafísica de los espejos de Borges; es verdad que en nuestras domésticas bañeras nadie descubrirá el principio de Arquímedes; es verdad que nuestros baños no poseen el prestigio de las fuentes como Versalles, o Fontanebleau, o Plaza Lavalle… Y sin embargo, con sólo apretar un botón, ¡qué despliegue de manantiales! Y cuando uno se retira con la satisfacción del deber cumplido no necesita arrojar una moneda, como en la Fontana di Trevi, para asegurarse el regreso; uno sabe que ha de volver al día siguiente, o en algunos casos a los dos días… o tres o más…Bueno, no sé, en algún momento convendría probar con la moneda… ¡Cuántos gobernantes han meditado sus actos en un cuarto de baño como su fuera su despacho al extremo de no distinguirse dónde han resuelto más asuntos y dónde hacen más… decisiones incorrectas! En todo ello pensaba el gran compositor Johann Sebastian Mastropiero cuando compuso "Loas al Cuarto de Baño", su célebre cuarteto concertante para artefactos sanitarios, que escucharemos a continuación, compuesto para los siguientes instrumentos: Calephone, Lirodoro, Desafinaducha y Nomeolbídet. En "Loas al Cuarto de Baño" Mastropiero ha logrado, más que nunca, que de su música emane la esencia de la materia que describe. En ella se respira la inconfundible atmósfera de toda su producción.

Praise for the bathroom

Among the various spaces in which men's lives take place, one of the most frequented is the bathroom. However, its role in history has been unjustly postponed. Very important things have happened in the bathrooms; How many decisions have been made, how many books have been read! Or, in everyday life, how many married couples reconcile in the bathroom, for example while the wife brushes her teeth and the husband trims his mustache... or vice versa... It is true that the humble mirror in a medicine cabinet does not have the metaphysical depth of Borges's mirrors; It is true that in our domestic bathtubs no one will discover Archimedes' principle; It is true that our bathrooms do not have the prestige of fountains like Versailles, or Fontanebleau, or Plaza Lavalle... And yet, with the push of a button, what a display of springs! And when one leaves with the satisfaction of having fulfilled his duty, he does not need to throw a coin, as in the Trevi Fountain, to ensure his return; You know you have to come back the next day, or in some cases two days... or three or more... Well, I don't know, at some point it would be a good idea to try the coin... How many rulers have meditated on their actions in a bathroom? as if it were their office to the point of not being able to distinguish where they have resolved the most issues and where they make the most… incorrect decisions! The great composer Johann Sebastian Mastropiero was thinking about all this when he composed "Loas al Cuarto de Baño", his famous concert quartet for sanitary devices, which we will hear below, composed for the following instruments: Calephone, Lirodoro, Desafinaducha and Nomeolbídet. In "Praise to the Bathroom" Mastropiero has managed, more than ever, to make the essence of the material he describes emanate from his music. In it you can breathe the unmistakable atmosphere of all his production.
