I Had Wings Too

LOCURA POÉTICA

YO TAMBIEN TUVE ALAS

Yo también tuve alas
Pero el cielo se cansó de mí
Demasiado ruido, demasiada luz

No me empujaron
Me dejé ir, quise probar lo prohibido
Y lo encontré amable al principio
Tan amable
Que no quise volver

Me habló bajito
Me prometió calma

I Had Wings Too

I had wings too
But the sky got tired of me
Too much noise, too much light
For so much gray

They say I fell because I was arrogant
That I thought I was different
They don’t know my soul was aching
But still, I smiled

Blessed be the mediocre
Who sleep soundly without dreaming
I sleep little and when I dream, I burn
They took away my sky, but not my desire

And even with broken wings
I fly more than they do
I came down from the sky, quietly
With wings tired of so much shine

It wasn’t punishment
It was curiosity
I fell because the silence hurt
And someone offered me an easy dream

I learned that paradise isn’t as high
As I thought
That demons also cry
And angels can rot too

I search for myself in the reflection of an empty body
I’m still alive, but I don’t fly anymore, I just float

Now I walk on the side of shadows
Where the sky doesn’t shine
But at least it doesn’t deceive
I didn’t fall out of madness, I fell out of exhaustion
From wanting to stop the noise for a moment
I fell quietly
No one pushed me
I let go, I wanted to try the forbidden
And I found it kind at first
So kind
That I didn’t want to go back

It spoke softly to me
Promised me calm
Swore it would hurt less
And it delivered
Since then I walk slowly
Not from exhaustion, but from fear of tripping on the light
On that tremor that settles where my soul used to live

Now I’m the devil of my addictions
I have no wings left or desire to find them
I bless my sentence with my eyes wide open
Because closing them would mean dreaming again

I’ve learned to talk to what kills me
To feel something different from the void
In every attempt to escape
I left a piece of me
Until there was no one left to save

There are no chains
Just habit
There’s no redemption
Just routine
And every night I tell myself that maybe tomorrow
But I know I’m lying

And the worst part of being a devil
Is not hell
It’s knowing
That I chose it myself
