Santiago Identity

Santiago Identity

I'm that singer, folks, a proud Santiago man
I have a friendly heart and a soul full of dreams
And a singing voice to express what I feel

As a kid, I was sheltered by the big plaza downtown
There, I shined shoes for the folks in the town
And I made my living polishing up their leather

I love the smell of chipaco, mistol, and homemade bread
That's why when I sing, I shout out where I'm from
Because in my voice, there's the scent of Santiago del Estero

We Santiago singers honor our land
Because our souls are carved from good wood
And in our hearts, we carry the roots of chacarera

I'm that singer, folks, a Santiago ambassador
With brown skin, weathered by the hells of January
And a heart full of thorns from the thorny bushes of Bande

I'm a free-spirited singer, a sparrow flying low
So I'm never far from the cries of my people
Because it's a high honor to be a Santiago minstrel

No need for dictionaries or geography books
Because I sing of the landscape, the people, and the salt flats
And the typical customs of all my homeland

We Santiago singers honor our land
Because our souls are carved from good wood
And in our hearts, we carry the roots of chacarera
