De las colinas del cerro
Divisaba la ciudad
Y le preguntaba al cielo
Lo que allá podía encontrar
Me agobiaba la pobreza
Pero soñaba en triunfar
Un día estaba meditando
Encerrado en mi jacal
Luego me vieron salir
De equipaje mi morral
Y me llevaron mis pasos
Al Distrito Federal
Allá tuve mil oficios
Trabajando en lo que fuera
Mi hotel fueron los andenes
De la central camionera
Y un día me vieron salir
Con destino a la frontera
Con una gran ilusión
Brinqué el lado americano
Y trabajé con pasión
A través de mucho años
Ahora de esta gran nación
También ya soy ciudadano
Al que piense que por esto
A mi patria he traicionado
Yo le digo con respeto
Que está muy equivocado
Mi corazón sigue siendo
Verde, blanco y Colorado
Soy mexicano señores
Y téngalo muy presentes
Orgulloso de mi origen
El nopal traigo en mi frente
Sobre de un águila real
Devorando una serpiente

I could see the city
And I asked the sky
What I could find there
Poverty overwhelmed me
But I dreamed of succeeding
One day I was meditating
Locked in my shack
Then they saw me leave
With my backpack as luggage
And my steps took me
To the Federal District
There I had a thousand jobs
Working in whatever
My hotel were the platforms
Of the bus station
And one day they saw me leave
Heading to the border
With great excitement
I jumped to the American side
And worked passionately
Through many years
Now in this great nation
I am also a citizen
To anyone who thinks
That I have betrayed my homeland for this
I say with respect
That they are very wrong
My heart still remains
Green, white, and red
I am Mexican, gentlemen
And keep it in mind
Proud of my origin
I carry the nopal on my forehead
Above a real eagle
Devouring a serpent
