"Certa vez uma caneta foi passear lá no sertão
Encontrou-se com uma enxada, fazendo a plantação
A enxada muito humilde, foi lhe fazer saudação
Mas a caneta soberba não quis pegar sua mão
E ainda por desaforo lhe passou uma repreensão"
Disse a caneta pra enxada não vem perto de mim, não
Você está suja de terra, de terra suja do chão
Sabe com quem está falando, veja sua posição
E não se esqueça à distância da nossa separação
Sou a caneta dourada que escreve no tabelião
Eu escrevo pros governos as leis da constituição
Escrevi em papel de linho, pros ricaços e pros barão
Só ando na mão dos mestres, dos homens de posição
A enxada respondeu: de fato vivo no chão
Pra poder dar o que comer e vestir o seu patrão
Eu vim no mundo primeiro quase no tempo de Adão
Se não fosse o meu sustento ninguém tinha instrução
Vai-te caneta orgulhosa, vergonha da geração
A sua alta nobreza não passa de pretensão
Você diz que escreve tudo, tem uma coisa que não

The Pen and the Hoe
"Once a pen went for a walk in the backlands
It met a hoe, working the plantation
The humble hoe greeted it
But the arrogant pen refused to shake its hand
And even scolded it
The pen said to the hoe, don't come near me
You're dirty with soil, dirty soil from the ground

I'm the golden pen that writes in the notary
I write for governments the laws of the constitution
I wrote on linen paper, for the rich and the barons
I only walk in the hands of masters, men of position
The hoe replied: indeed, I live on the ground
To provide food and clothing for your master

If it weren't for my sustenance, no one would have education
Go away proud pen, shame of the generation
Your high nobility is just pretension
