fui como un loco a buscarla
pero ya no la encontré
supe que mi pobre vieja
sin saber ya lo que hacer

de comer

muerta del frío tal vez
sin exhalar ni una queja
paso toda su vejez
con una de las vecinas

que borrado por llanto
a penas se pudo leer

I knew that my poor old lady
not knowing what to do anymore
went from door to door to ask
for something to eat
in a corner of a church
dead from the cold perhaps
without uttering a single complaint
she spent all her old age
with one of the neighbors
she left me a note
that, blurred by tears,
could hardly be read
my dear son it said
be good to the woman
who took you from my side
I have already forgiven her
and if God gives you a child
talk to him a lot about me
