Nelson, the son of Joseph,
plays football with his friends.
Sometimes he pauses
and gazes down the dirt road.
Today the bus will come??
Today his father will come??
Outsile their hut,
his mother pauses at her washing.
Raw calloused hands on hips,
she gazes at her son.
She knows it will be many months
untill Joseph returns.
Nelson kicks the football,
the bus forgotten
for a while ...

Nelson, el hijo de José,
juega fútbol con sus amigos.
A veces se detiene
y mira hacia abajo por el camino de tierra.
¿Hoy vendrá el autobús??
¿Hoy vendrá su padre??
Afuera de su choza,
su madre se detiene en su lavado.
Manos crudas y callosas en las caderas,
ella mira a su hijo.
Ella sabe que pasarán muchos meses
hasta que José regrese.
Nelson golpea el balón,
el autobús olvidado
por un rato...
