Freakshow
My dear friend,
I have visited the freakshow in the circus.
I am appalled at what I saw but at the same time it attracts me and makes me wonder who is the freak between the spectators and the sad souls performing.
Some of them are amputated, some are mutilated.
They're marked and they're scratched, as if cut by knives.
Others are mentally abnormal and disfigured, but they have no other way to get by in their lives.
Stones and rotten fruit thrown at them are breaking them down day by day.
It's an immense institution of humiliation.
I'm sure the screams of pain and endless disgrace will haunt them forever.
To me it's organised desecration.
But when the curtain finally falls and the crowds recede, the show is over and done.
The freaks of the show are counting their money and fall asleep one by one.
They repress the fact that tomorrow will be another day, so they silently dream away, trying in their minds to keep out the unease and meet the scoffing, come what may.
Oh, what money can make people do...
Espectáculo de Fenómenos
Mi querido amigo,
He visitado el espectáculo de fenómenos en el circo.
Me horroricé por lo que vi, pero al mismo tiempo me atrae y me hace preguntarme quién es el fenómeno entre los espectadores y las almas tristes que actúan.
Algunos de ellos están amputados, algunos están mutilados.
Están marcados y arañados, como si los hubieran cortado con cuchillos.
Otros son mentalmente anormales y desfigurados, pero no tienen otra forma de sobrevivir en sus vidas.
Piedras y frutas podridas arrojadas contra ellos los están destrozando día a día.
Es una inmensa institución de humillación.
Estoy seguro de que los gritos de dolor y la vergüenza interminable los perseguirán para siempre.
Para mí es una profanación organizada.
Pero cuando finalmente cae el telón y la multitud se retira, el espectáculo ha terminado y se acabó.
Los fenómenos del espectáculo están contando su dinero y se van quedando dormidos uno por uno.
Reprimen el hecho de que mañana será otro día, así que sueñan en silencio, tratando en sus mentes de mantener a raya la incomodidad y enfrentar las burlas, pase lo que pase.
Oh, lo que el dinero puede hacer que la gente haga...
