El Consejo
Bebe el agua que brota de tu propia fuente
y no busques saciarte en otra corriente
que solo traerá tristeza a tu corazón;
No codicies la plata ni la tierra ajena
y no tientes al lobo cuando hay luna llena
porque él no tendrá compasión de ti;
Nunca culpes al cielo de tu situación
ni pretendas ser otro en tu imaginación,
sé más sabio y acepta el molde de tu condición;
Y no entierres la mina que se te entregó,
aprovecha los días que tu Dios te dio
y celebra a cada amanecer del Sol.
No edifiques tu casa sin antes pararte a pensar
si en tu mano tienes suficiente para comenzar
y llegar hasta el final;
No provoques la lucha contra tu enemigo
si no has calculado quién está contigo
y cuantos vendrán a combatirte a ti;
Nunca frunzas el ceño para perdonar
y no tires la piedra en primer lugar,
ni desvíes jamás la vista por decir la verdad;
Prueba a ser más sencillo, mira alrededor,
agradece la lluvia, planta alguna flor,
y pellízcate al sentir la luz del sol.
Y si llegas a tropezar en tu camino,
no escondas la cara, aunque hayas caído,
tendrás que aprender, para recomenzar;
que es mejor ser honesto y empezar de cero,
que urdir un atajo por llegar primero,
y a Dios no podrás engañarle jamás;
Y si buscas primero el Reino de los Cielos
verás añadidos todos tus deseos,
y aún en la noche oscura de tu corazón,
brillarás como el oro puro de verdad,
como el águila en vuelo te remontarás,
volverás a ver brillar la luz del sol.
The Advice
Drink the water that springs from your own source
and don't seek to quench your thirst in another stream
that will only bring sadness to your heart;
Don't covet silver or someone else's land
and don't tempt the wolf when the moon is full
because he will show no mercy towards you;
Never blame the sky for your situation
or pretend to be someone else in your imagination,
be wiser and accept the mold of your condition;
And don't bury the mine that was given to you,
make the most of the days your God gave you
and celebrate each sunrise of the Sun.
Don't build your house without first stopping to think
if you have enough in your hand to start
and reach the end;
Don't provoke a fight against your enemy
if you haven't calculated who is with you
and how many will come to fight against you;
Never frown to forgive
and don't throw the first stone,
nor ever look away for speaking the truth;
Try to be simpler, look around,
thank the rain, plant a flower,
and pinch yourself when feeling the sunlight.
And if you happen to stumble on your path,
don't hide your face, even if you have fallen,
you will have to learn, to start over;
it's better to be honest and start from scratch,
than to plot a shortcut to get there first,
and you will never be able to deceive God;
And if you seek first the Kingdom of Heaven
you will see all your desires added,
and even in the dark night of your heart,
you will shine like true pure gold,
like the eagle in flight you will soar,
you will see the sunlight shine again.
