Mother's drink is in her handbag
she sleeps most of the day
her dog barks at the freeway
as the uptown drives away
from their offices and dietaries
to their homes upon the hill
the rain beats on their window
now that time is standing still
For all the tea in china
would not move away
but for a little sunshine
I find the time of day
this moment isn't moving
this moment's here to stay
and there's nothing wrong with dreaming

Dad sits down in his armchair
watching spiders on the floor
making bets with one another
who'll be the first to walk out the door
it's a palace of distinction
why ain't it home to me?
where the sun comes up in the darkness
where the drinking sets me free
