E fala a língua do povo
Como ninguém fala mais?

De quem essa ira santa
Essa saúde civil
Que tocando a ferida
Redescobre o Brasil?
Quem é esse peregrino
Que caminha sem parar?
Quem é esse meu poeta
Que ninguém pode calar?

Spreading hope
And turning salt into honey?
Who is this acrobat
Speaking of rebellion
As if speaking of love
To the girl by the gate?
Who is this who delves
Into the depths of the marsh
As if going early in the morning
To pick fruit in the backyard?
Who is this who knows
Alagoas and Gerais
And speaks the language of the people
Like no one else does?

Whose is this holy anger
This civil health
That by touching the wound
Rediscovers Brazil?
Who is this pilgrim
Who walks without stopping?
