Invisible Fires
I dig up my bag
Bursting with strands
Of my magic lights
Struggling to life
I search out the room
glints in the gloom
Of buildings' old brick
Ancient and excited
But I'm not sure if you're there
And the night seems to stare
Down with cold stars for eyes
A now expected surprise
I've got glass balloon
Animals that I tune
And tighten and knot
'til I've got what I want
Some neon strings
Wove into wings
a fluorescent zoo
That I float up to you
But once I rise to your window
All the lights seem to dim low
And just as it goes pitch
You flip back the switch

Gone now are the voices and the sounds
Eyes and ears no longer needed here
No wires, just invisible fires
Feverish heat until we disappear
