Strange Fruit
southern trees bear strange fruit
blood at the leaves blood at the root
black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
pastoral scene of the gallant south
the bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
scent of magnolia sweet and fresh
then the sudden smell of burning flesh
here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
for the rain to gather for the wind to suck
the sun to rot the tree to drop
here is a strange and bitter crop
Fruta Extraña
En los árboles sureños cuelgan frutas extrañas
sangre en las hojas, sangre en la raíz
cuerpos negros balanceándose en la brisa sureña
fruta extraña colgando de los álamos
escena pastoral del valiente sur
los ojos abultados y la boca retorcida
olor a magnolia dulce y fresco
luego el repentino olor a carne quemada
aquí hay una fruta para que los cuervos arranquen
para que la lluvia recoja, para que el viento aspire
el sol pudrirá el árbol para que caiga
aquí hay un cultivo extraño y amargo
