Oh! que amigo em Cristo temos! Mais chegado que um irmão!
Quer que tudo nós levemos Ao bom Deus em oração.

Só porque não recorremos ao bom Deus em oração!
Há tristezas e pesares, Há na vida tentação;
Não ficamos sem conforto, Indo a Cristo em oração.
Pode haver um outro amigo Tão grandioso em compaixão?
Aos humildes e contritos, Cristo atende em oração.
Quando em dor desfalecemos, Cristo estendenos a mão,
Pois é sempre a nossa força, É refúgio em oração.
E se aqui nos menosprezam, Cristo é nosso em oração;
Em Seus braços nos acolhe, E nos dá consolação.

Oh, what a friend we have in Christ! Closer than a brother!
He wants us to bring everything to the good God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we always lose, Oh, what heartache!
Just because we don't turn to the good God in prayer!
There are sadness and sorrows, There are temptations in life;
We are not left without comfort, Going to Christ in prayer.
Could there be another friend So great in compassion?
To the humble and contrite, Christ answers in prayer.
When in pain we faint, Christ reaches out His hand,
For He is always our strength, Our refuge in prayer.
And if we are despised here, Christ is ours in prayer;
In His arms He welcomes us, And gives us consolation.
