Paper Planes & Rainy Days

Rhyan Gomez

Found a notebook from a younger me
Full of sketches of the things I'd be
I used to think the world was just a page
Waiting for the colors of a golden age
But the ink is smudging in the morning dew
And the sky is wearing a heavier hue

The puddles are deep on the avenue
Reflecting a version of me and you
We're building castles out of shifting sand
Holding a future in a trembling hand

Folding my hopes into a wing
Waiting for what the wind will bring
Through rainy days and paper planes
We're just trying to break these chains
Yeah, we're flying high on a fragile dream
Floating down a cold and grey stream

The thunder is distant, a low-key drum
Waiting for the brighter days to come
The edges are torn, the creases are white
But we're still throwing them into the night
A simple fold, a leap of faith
Chasing a ghost, chasing a wraith

The puddles are deep on the avenue
Reflecting a version of me and you
We're building castles out of shifting sand
Holding a future in a trembling hand

Folding my hopes into a wing
Waiting for what the wind will bring
Through rainy days and paper planes
We're just trying to break these chains
Yeah, we're flying high on a fragile dream
Floating down a cold and grey stream

(Rainy days, paper planes)
If the wings get wet, do we fall to the ground?
In the silence of the storm, is there any sound?
Don't let the water weigh you down
(Fly, just fly)

Folding my hopes into a wing
Waiting for what the wind will bring
Through rainy days and paper planes
We're just trying to break these chains
Yeah, we're flying high on a fragile dream
Floating down a cold and grey stream

Folding my hopes
Waiting for the wind
Through the rainy days
(Rain continues for a few seconds)
