To Choose Is To Lose

Rob Nunnes

Standing at the fork again, two roads divide the sky
One is paved with silver dreams, the other dust and time
But every step I try to take, a shadow pulls me back
For choosing one, I cast away the life I’ll never have

The river flows, yet holds no claim
The fire burns, yet speaks no name

To choose is always to lose
The moment dies within my hands
No path is ever truly mine
So I let go, and I withstand

The weight of years upon my chest, the echoes of the past
A thousand lives I’ll never live, all slipping through the cracks
No coin can buy what time has claimed, no prayer can bring it back
So I stand still, a breath between the future and the ash

Let the waves erase my name
Let the earth remain the same
All I am is passing through
Neither victor, neither doomed

To choose is always to lose
A thread is cut with every step
No hands can mold the hollow truth
So I release what I have left

No chains remain, no weight to bear
The sky is wide, yet I don’t stare
For choice is loss, yet loss is free
And all that is, is meant to be

No chains remain, no weight to bear
The sky is wide, yet I don’t stare
For choice is loss, yet loss is free
And all that is
