The Little Carnation

Rolando Alárcon

La clavelina

La clavelina en el huerto
aunque llueva no se moja,
agua cristalina y bella
y un clavel que se deshoja.

Una niña iba juyendo,
juyendo por no ser monja,
agua cristalina y bella
y un clavel que se deshoja.

Ya se me acabó el papel
quedo escribiendo en una hoja,
agua cristalina y bella
y un clavel que se deshoja.

The Little Carnation

The little carnation in the garden
Even if it rains, it stays dry,
Clear and beautiful water
And a carnation that’s losing its petals.

A girl was running away,
Running away to avoid being a nun,
Clear and beautiful water
And a carnation that’s losing its petals.

I’ve run out of paper
I’m left writing on a single sheet,
Clear and beautiful water
And a carnation that’s losing its petals.
