La historia de López Chirinos
(Don Juan del Chaparro) es ésta
Regresaba de su mina acompañado
Por su perro. Llegaba del monte por
Caminos nuevos. Al llegar a la sombra
Del chaparro (árbol) descansó. Tenía
Fiebre y no podía seguir más. Estuvo
Enfermo durante varios días, sin ayuda
Y por fin se murió. El perro estuvo
Defendiendo su cadáver de los zamuros
Hasta que llegó la gente. En aquellos
Días apareció por El Manteco un joven
De Upata, buscando trabajo (Era albañil)
Una persona piadosa recogió dinero para
Encargar al albañil de hacer la tumba para
El desconocido que había muerto en el lugar
El joven aceptó construírsela. La sorpresa
Acompañó su trabajo, cuando al mover los
Restos humanos, encontró las riquezas que
El muerto había traído de las minas de oro
Y en su suerte no olvidó poner algo de su parte
Para agradecer el obsequio. Así se construyó
El mausoleo, donde los devotos siguen con su
Culto para el ánima de López Chirinos
(Don Juan del Chaparro)
El Ánima del Chaparro o del Purguó se encuentra
En la salida de El Manteco-Edo. Bolívar
Un chaparro, un lirio y una guayaba dan sombra
A una casita blanca (Su Santuario), pequeño
Pero muy bonito custodiado por un Puesto
Militar (Alcabala vehicular). Ahí está su ataúd
Y sobre el una imagen labrada en madera
Recuerda que el difunto se llamó López Chirinos
En el altar se encuentran muchas velas, ofrendas
Un busto del indio Guaicaipuro, una petición
Pidiendo la beatificación de José Gregorio
Hernández, oraciones a la Mano Poderosa y
Otra a la Santísirna Trinidad. Muchos cuadernos
Y lápices de los estudiantes, en la pared un
Haz de frijoles, quizás para dar gracias por
Una buena cosecha
Don Juan del chaparro se trabaja con su luz
(Vela o velón) verde sino blanca, chimo, su
Café sin azúcar y su lavagallo (Ron o
Aguardiente barato), cuando llega dice
DON JUAN DEL CHAPARRO LO BENDICE
EN ESTA HORA Y EN ESTE SANTO MOMENTO
Es un viejito muy correcto, infunde mucho
Respeto y es muy sabio, tiene su carácter y
Si tiene que regañarte para que aprendas la
Lección pues lo hará por tu bien, es muy
Apreciado por los que lo conocen

The Soul of the Chaparro or Purguó is found
At the exit of El Manteco-Edo. Bolívar
A chaparro, a lily, and a guava provide shade
To a small white house (His Sanctuary), small
