when i heard the news today
felt like i might cry
i knew i had to blaze
i took a plane away from here
and all the while
you were on my mind
standing in the door
saying something kind
i can't recall
did you hear the news today?
the boys have gone to war
i knew i can't explain
i leaned out over the bridge and saw
them landing on the shore
but something was not right
set down my petafore
gathered up my beads
and locked the door
