Father Figure (Track by Track)
Father Figure is a song about power, a song about a protégé and their mentor
And about sort of the idea of the tables turning, and the flipping of the script, almost sort of like the son versus the father
And I've always loved stories about that and I've always wanted to create a song that really explained how those roles can shift over time
And I'm really proud of this one, too
It has one of my favorite key changes that I've ever done in a song so, lo-look for that in the end
I would say that lyrically,, I had such a blast writing this record because each song is, like, it's own sort of choose your own adventure
Each song feels like an era of it's own,, it's just a very dramatic, sweeping, epic record full of twelve songs, but each one really packs a punch and each one is really it's own kind of movie
But the Father Figure lyrics are my favorite
I remember just writing the lyrics, just like sitting there just being like: Heheh, heheheh
It's the stuff that I've always wanted to say
The first line of the second verse is, like, my favorite in terms of a visual, like, you think about what it means
And then you realize it's just like, a very descriptive way to say something
And I love that line, and I also love the key-change chorus lyrics
It's just, it was a blast to write
I, I love like, stepping into a character like that
Figura Paterna (Tema por Tema)
Figura Paterna es una canción sobre el poder, una canción sobre un protegido y su mentor
Y sobre la idea de que las cosas pueden cambiar, y el giro de la historia, casi como el hijo contra el padre
Y siempre me han encantado las historias sobre eso y siempre he querido crear una canción que realmente explique cómo esos roles pueden cambiar con el tiempo
Y estoy muy orgulloso de esta también
Tiene uno de mis cambios de tonalidad favoritos que he hecho en una canción, así que, búscalo al final
Diría que líricamente, fue muy divertido escribir este disco porque cada canción es, como, su propia aventura
Cada canción se siente como una era propia, es un disco muy dramático, grandioso, épico, lleno de doce canciones, pero cada una realmente impacta y cada una es como su propia película
Pero las letras de Figura Paterna son mis favoritas
Recuerdo que solo escribía las letras, sentado ahí, riéndome: Heheh, heheheh
Es lo que siempre he querido decir
La primera línea del segundo verso es, como, mi favorita en términos visuales, como, piensas en lo que significa
Y luego te das cuenta de que es solo una forma muy descriptiva de decir algo
Y me encanta esa línea, y también me encantan las letras del coro con el cambio de tonalidad
Fue simplemente, fue un placer escribir
Me encanta, como, meterme en un personaje así
