Ashes of the Homeland

The Holitter

The autumn Sun on fields of gold
A promise whispered, brave and old
But iron clouds now stain the sky
A distant thunder, a piercing cry
The call to arms, the final breath
They march away to meet their death

The bells that rang for harvest time
Now toll for those who crossed the line
Empty chairs at every door
Waiting for the ones at war

Ashes of the homeland, scattered wide
Cities crumble, no place to hide
Rivers run red with forgotten dreams
War's cruel hand tears at the seams
Rise from the dust, oh weary soul
In the ruins, we seek control!

The horizon bleeds a fiery red
Rumours fly of countless dead
Not here, not yet, but getting close
This peaceful land, a haunted host
The crows descend on blackened fields
The brutal truth the battle yields

The granaries lie open, torn
The mills will grind no further corn
Our sons became the swords they wield
We became the battlefield

Ashes of the homeland, scattered wide
Cities crumble, no place to hide
Rivers run red with forgotten dreams
War's cruel hand tears at the seams
Rise from the dust, oh weary soul
In the ruins, we seek control!

When will they return to us?
When will silence break the curse?
Every dawn without their voice
Reminds us war was not our choice

Stone by stone we'll build again!
Seed by seed we'll grow through pain!
Though the banners burn tonight
We'll survive to see the light!

Fields of gold now turn to gray
Smoke obscures the light of day
Broken walls where children played
Silent streets where prayers are prayed

Echoes rise from broken stone
Songs of sorrow, sung alone
When the warriors ride away
Hope is buried in the clay

Ashes of the homeland, forever burned
Lessons of loss that we have learned
From village ashes, new fires ignite
In the heart of darkness, we claim the light!
Rise from the dust, oh weary soul
In the ruins
We are whole!

The fields remember every name
The stones recall who never came
But dawn will break on new-born land
Built by each surviving hand

The fields are gone
The fire's cold
And we just
Grow
Old
