There was a man came to see the USA from a foreign land
To photograph the progress of dear old Uncle Sam
He got off the boat in New York went down to the Bowery
I know what the man went to photograph and to see.
There were hopeless hungry living dead
Winos who sell their souls for a bottle of a cheapest red
That's the picture that he wanted
And that's what he got they say America the ugly today.

He went to the Appalachians and he saw what we all have seen
Where people live on bread and soup fat back and pinto beans
He saw the hungry children and he photographed the ragged clothes
I guess we're gonna try to tell him that it ain't so.
There were good men standin' around with nothing to do
Pregnant young women who didn't even have a pair of shoes
The man got his pictures and what are we going to say
America the ugly today.

Then he went to the medicare centers and he saw the old people there
It seems that the young generation just didn't want 'em in their hair
He saw the poor man workin' it out while the mighty rich lives high
And my friend that brings a gleam to the enemy's eyes.
There were some folks had plenty and some had none at all
The enemy knows when a heart gets hard the country is bound to fall

Amerika das Hässliche
...zeigt nur, dass es überall auf der Welt graue Materie gibt.
Es gibt einige negative Aspekte über Amerika und das sind die hässlichen Teile.
Ein Mann kam aus einem fremden Land, um die USA zu sehen
Um den Fortschritt von Onkel Sam zu fotografieren.
Er stieg in New York von dem Boot und ging in die Bowery,
Ich weiß, was der Mann fotografieren und sehen wollte.
Da waren hoffnungslose, hungrige Lebende Tote,
Alkoholiker, die ihre Seelen für eine Flasche billigsten Rotwein verkaufen.
Das ist das Bild, das er wollte,
Und das hat er bekommen, sie sagen Amerika das Hässliche heute.

Er ging zu den Appalachen und sah, was wir alle gesehen haben,
Wo die Menschen von Brot und Suppe, fettem Speck und Pinto-Bohnen leben.
Er sah die hungrigen Kinder und fotografierte die zerlumpten Kleider,
Ich schätze, wir werden versuchen, ihm zu sagen, dass es nicht so ist.
Da standen gute Männer herum, die nichts zu tun hatten,
Schwangere junge Frauen, die nicht einmal ein Paar Schuhe hatten.
Der Mann bekam seine Bilder und was werden wir sagen?

Dann ging er zu den Medicare-Zentren und sah die alten Menschen dort,
Es scheint, dass die junge Generation sie einfach nicht in ihrem Leben haben wollte.
Er sah den armen Mann, der es irgendwie schaffte, während die Reichen hoch leben,
Und mein Freund, das bringt einen Glanz in die Augen des Feindes.
Da waren einige Leute, die viel hatten, und andere hatten gar nichts,
Der Feind weiß, wenn ein Herz hart wird, wird das Land fallen.
Wenn wir Köpfe und Herzen zusammenbringen, müssen wir nicht hören, wie sie sagen:
