The last function

The last function

Looking at the clock hands I understand how it works
Time is not the hours that the calendar piles up
It is the force of the impact, what pierces the chest
The earthquake that shakes us and leaves us without a roof
I walked alone for decades, drifting with the current
A boring desert with its gaze fixed ahead
Cloned gray days, a heavy routine
Where passing the years meant nothing

But then you came along and changed everything
A few months were enough to set the border ablaze
Your steps and your shared laughter were worth more
That all that past that I dragged through life
The past feels like a blurry prologue
A poorly written, dull, and silent script
Life Before You Was a Long, Cold Rehearsal
Waiting for the moment to fill this void

Your presence was the premiere, the first performance
The lights are on, the actual execution
The applause of the soul, the theater vibrating strongly
The perfect miracle of crossing paths with your luck
And although the damned time ran by at a swift pace
And distance came to separate our voices
Although the curtain came down quickly and left us in darkness
The work was perfect in all its structures

I don't regret the ending, nor do I dwell on the reproach
I accept the silence that awaits us tonight
The spotlights go out, leaving the stage empty
But the echo of what I experienced remains mine
It takes courage to accept that it's over
The show was short, but it was the most divine
I'll keep the fire, the wound, and the passion
Every second of the show was worth it

The rehearsal ended
The premiere was held in the dark
The curtain fell quickly, yes
But what a great show we put on!
Good luck out there
Good luck out there
